| Cave Creek Museum |
|
Near an old military road at the base of Black Mountain,
sits the Cave Creek Museum. Its roots are embedded in
the pioneer traditions of neighbor helping neighbor.
In 1968, a small group of volunteers formed an historical
society that found definition as the Cave Creek Museum.
Cave Creek's first church building was given to the
organization to house the museum. The small structure
was moved to the corner of Basin and Skyline Drive and
set of land donated by Frank and Hazel Wright. Donations
and gifts of historical significance poured in - the
rest is history. Well to be more accurate the rest is
about history.
Cave Creek has lots of history, from soldiers from Fort
McDowell patrolling the mountains and controlling the
Tono apaches in the 1870s, the modest gold boom that
increased the local population thru to it's efforts
to help the sick.
Amongst it's exhibits is Arizona's last remaining tubercular
cabin. In the 1920s and 30s people suffering from the
lung disease would come to Arizona's dry warm area hoping
to find respite from their illness. You can learn more
by visiting the museum.
