Prescott
has the distinction of being Arizona Territory's first
capital. Whiskey Row alone has been responsible for bringing
people to the town for many years. Initially to visit
the row of 40 saloons selling...Whiskey amongst other
things. Nowadays the visitors to Whiskey Row are in search
of antiques and curios as the former bawdy hotels and
saloons have been converted to stores, that also house
boutiques and art galleries.
Set
in a basin and surrounded by the Bradshaw Mountains, the
Thumb Butte and the Granite Dells the area offers activities
for nature lovers, hikers and bikers and horseriders both
on the trails around the city and also at Prescott National
Forest.
The forest offers camping and picnicking and some of Arizona's
finest views.
History lovers will find plenty to occupy them: Sharlot
Hall Museum is the city's largest museum taking it's name
from an historian who lived in the city. Other historical
sites around Prescott include The Governor's Mansion,
yes that rustic log cabin was the Governor's mansion!
Prescott streets are lined with impressive looking Victorian
homes
One of this webmaster's favorite spots is the courthouse,
built in 1916, situated in the greenery of the town square.
Make sure that you do not miss the timeline of the city's
history which is engraved into the sidewalk as you walk
towards the entrance of the courthouse.
