As
part of the Lowestoft Fish Fayre, the former home of Laser
558 - the M.V. Communicator was open to the public once
more. This is quite possibly the last opportunity to visit
the vessel at Lowestoft as a move is expected from the
port later this summer.
My son and I arrived just after midday and were welcomed
onboard by none other than Dave Miller (owner) himself
and subsequently given a guided tour around the ship as
well. Much time given to take photos and following the
official tour then told to basically go anywhere we liked.
For a ship which was involved in a battle with the British
Government of the day I found it slightly amusing that
on this day the public were treated to "light refreshments",
maybe the Laser lady is mellowing in her age! But very
warmly welcome the refreshments were. AND they were all
freshly prepared in the ship's galley. It seems the priority
was that the galley was the first place restored to previous
glory.
Everyone onboard was extremely friendly and as you walked
around you not only fell in love with the boat but the
people made you feel welcome too. It was not so much a
boat as a home, as it had been to the djs and crew in
the mid 80s.
