During
her early twenties Shania put aside her music to raise her younger brothers
and sisters (see Early Life) and it wasnt
until 1993 when she recorded her first album.
She was signed by Mercury Nashville after they were left in awe after
seeing her perform at the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ontario. After
working with Shania they produced her first self titled album in '93
and issued her first single "What Made You Say That". Although the song
wasn't a mega hit, it got the attention of her director, Sean Penn,
and her soon to be producer, Robert (Mutt) Lang.
Mutt and Shania instantly fell in love and were married in 1994. They
combined their talents and released Shania's second and third albums,
"The Woman in Me"(1995) and "Come on Over"(1997).
Shania is the first singer to successfully combine country music with
pop and to get away with wearing belly shirts at the Country Music Awards.
She is one of the most popular country singer of the 90's and has sold
over 20 million copies of "Come on Over".
After completing Twain's first-ever headlining tour, her and Mutt have
decided to move to Switzerland to escape the public eye.
